Term 4

Welcome back to a very busy and productive Term 4. We hope you had a relaxing holiday and are well-rested for an eventful term ahead!

Stay tuned for information regarding the many events occurring this term.

Mathematics

Throughout Term 4 in Applied Math, students will learn about statistics, including constructing, interpreting, and comparing a range of data displays.

Students will also learn more about measurement, focusing on volume, capacity, and mass.

In Location and Transformation, they will look at coordinates and investigate angles.

Reading

Independent Reading will continue to form part of our daily routine this term, allowing students to access a range of genres, draw on various comprehension strategies, and build their reading stamina. Students will engage in an author study, write their book reviews on texts read, and be encouraged to think critically about the texts we read and form opinions on books. Students will also be participating in weekly Vocabulary and Close Reading lessons.

Writing

This term, students will be continuing to develop their skills in the 6+1 Traits of Writing. The focus for Writing will be on Persuasive texts, including writing speeches for debates and the language used in advertising to persuade.  Students will be challenged to use various persuasive techniques (e.g. rhetorical questions, emotive words, alliteration, repetition and statistics) to enhance their arguments and produce an influential piece of writing.

Integrated Studies

This term in Integrated Studies, students will learn about Government in our unit on Civics and Citizenship. They will learn the role of the three levels of government and how laws are passed through parliament.

Other information

  • Please remind your children to always bring brain food (fruit or vegetables) to school. Brain food assists students to remain fully focused and engaged during their learning. Please also ensure a bottle of clean water is brought to school daily.

  • Students are expected to read five nights a week (for 30- 45 minutes) and include a short, written reflection for 4 of those nights in their journal.

    In addition, students will complete a detailed reading reflection and a literacy activity relating to their book in their homework book. Students will also be assigned Mathletics tasks.

    Homework will be handed out on Wednesday and should be submitted the following Monday. All students should be able to complete their homework independently, and their work should be of a high standard.

  • Grade 5 Sport begins this term. The Grade 5s will try out sports for next year with the Grade 4s and then training in preparation for 2025.  This session will run from 9:15 am until approximately 11:00 am on Friday mornings. 

    The sports for this term are, Football, Soccer, Hot Shots, Netball and

    T-Ball.

    The Grade 6 students will be participating in rehearsals for their Graduation Ceremony during this time.

  • As the weather starts to warm up this term, please remember that all students must wear hats and apply sunscreen.

  • This year has certainly flown by and we’re sure that the Grade 6 students and their parents will agree. We are very much looking forward to celebrating the Graduating Class of 2024 with families in the coming weeks. Here are some of the important details which you should take note of:
