Grade 5 & 6
Term 2
Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2! The Grade 5/6 team hope you had a wonderful time with your families during the term break. We look forward to a busy but exciting term with various activities planned to enhance our students' learning.
The Grade 5/6 cohort would highly value your assistance in preparing for the upcoming colder season, during which coughs and sniffles tend to emerge. If you haven't already, kindly send a box of tissues, hand soap, and paper towels with your child.
Mathematics
Number: Throughout Term 2, students will work on multiplication and division. In this topic, students will learn and build upon efficient strategies to solve multiplication and division problems and apply this learning to real-life scenarios.
Measurement & Geometry: This term, students will learn about measurement, including length, perimeter, area, volume, capacity, and mass. They will also make connections between units and apply this knowledge to real-life situations.
Reading
Students will continue to learn about language features, different viewpoints, the strategies authors use to influence the reader, analysing images and vocabulary, and interpreting media and digital texts. They will use these strategies to gain a deep understanding of various texts.
Reading different types of persuasive pieces will also be an important element throughout the term, providing the students with background information to assist them in their writing.
Writing
This term, students will continue to develop their skills in the 6+1 Traits of Writing. The writing focus will be persuasive texts, including discussions and the ability to present both sides of an argument. Students will be challenged to use various persuasive techniques (e.g., rhetorical questions, emotive words, alliteration, repetition, and statistics) to enhance their arguments and produce an influential piece of writing.
Integrated Studies
This term in Integrated Studies, we will learn about Health and Safety. Students will plan and practise strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing. They will investigate the role of preventive health in promoting and maintaining health, safety and wellbeing for individuals and their communities.
