Term 2
Term 2
Welcome back to school for Term Two! Our prep students will continue to focus on settling into school routines and expectations.
Mathematics
During Term Two, students will explore various concepts and learning tasks in Numeracy. Some of the key concepts covered will be counting, number formation and place value to 20, time focusing on daily events, days of the week, shape, data and graphing and addition.
Reading
Throughout Term Two, the Reading program will continue focusing on a range of routines and strategies to encourage reading accuracy and understanding. Daily sessions will focus on phonics instruction, and students will learn the comprehension strategies of predicting, visualising, summarising, questioning and making connections. Students will read decodable texts and focus on accuracy and fluency.
Writing
Students will have many opportunities to develop and extend their knowledge of sound and letter relationships to assist with writing. The Writing program will continue focusing on beginning writing strategies, including using the correct pencil grip, leaving spaces between words, and correctly using upper- and lowercase letters.
Understanding letter-sound relationships and using letters to represent the sounds heard in words will be the major focus. Students will experiment with different text types, emphasising personal recounts of significant events in their daily lives.
Integrated Studies
The Integrated Studies topic for Term Two is ‘On the Farm’. The students will build on their prior knowledge of farm life and further their understanding of farm animals and produce, life on a farm, and the need for farms. There will also be an excursion to Animal Land Farm on Thursday, June 12th.
On Wednesdays, the students will continue engaging in ‘The Resilience Project’ and ‘Respectful Relationships’ as part of the Student Engagement and Wellbeing program.
Through our daily learning programs, children will continue to investigate the school’s five values: Learning, Resilience, Teamwork, Collaboration, and Respect.
